Why editing a PDF is harder than editing a document.

A PDF is not a document in the sense a word processor means it. There are no paragraphs, no reflowing lines and no styles, only instructions to draw particular glyphs at particular coordinates in a particular font. That is why so many PDF editors either refuse to touch existing text or convert the whole file to something else and hand back a page that no longer looks like the original.

This editor takes the narrower, more useful path. It reads the page’s own character stream to find your text, including matches whose styling changes part-way through (a bold word inside a sentence, for example), removes exactly those glyphs, and draws the replacement at the same baseline in the same font, size and colour. Everything else on the page, the images, the vector artwork, the untouched text, is left byte-for-byte alone.

When the original look genuinely cannot be preserved, you are told rather than left to discover it later. If the embedded font is a subset whose character map was stripped, the export report says so. If your replacement is wider than the text it replaces, you choose what should give: keep the size and extend, shrink to the original width, or shift the rest of the line across. Any resulting overlap with neighbouring text is reported in points.

Questions about this tool.

The things worth knowing before you edit the document.

Can I edit any text in a PDF?

You can edit text that is stored as text. A scanned or photographed page is an image with no text layer to click, so there is nothing to replace. For those pages, add a text box or a whiteout area instead, or run the file through OCR elsewhere first.

Will the font change when I edit text?

The editor extracts the document’s own embedded font and re-registers it, so in most cases the replacement is set in exactly the same typeface. If the file only embeds a subset without a usable character map, or the subset lacks a glyph your new text needs, it falls back to the closest installed or built-in font and tells you which happened in the export report.

What if my new text is longer than the original?

You pick the trade-off. Keep the original size and let the text extend to the right, shrink the size to fit the original width, or reflow the rest of the line to make room. Whichever you choose, the export report states in points if the result still overlaps neighbouring text or runs past the page edge.

Can I edit a sentence that wraps onto the next line?

Yes, but it is a deliberate choice rather than the default, because re-wrapping changes more of the page. The replacement is fitted back into the boxes the original lines filled so the paragraph keeps its shape. The surrounding paragraph is not re-flowed, so a much shorter replacement leaves a gap, and that is reported too.

Is the edited PDF watermarked?

No. The exported PDF carries no watermark, badge or trial notice, and there is no page limit or export count.
