Merging is usually the first step, not the last.

Combining files is rarely the whole job. A merged bundle normally needs a page rotated, a duplicate removed, a cover page added or numbering applied across the whole thing. Most merge tools hand you a download and leave you to open a second tool for that. Here the merged document lands in the editor, so the tidying happens immediately and the file is only exported once.

Order is decided before the merge, in a queue you can rearrange, rather than discovered afterwards from the page thumbnails. If you need more material later, additional PDFs can be inserted before or after the current page, or at the end, from the editor toolbar.

The originals are never touched. Merging produces a new document from copies, so the files on your machine remain exactly as they were.

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

Up to ten files in a single merge, which covers the ordinary cases of assembling a report, a set of scans or a signed bundle. Merge in two passes if you have more, since the result of a merge can itself be merged again.

Can I choose the order of the files?

Yes. The pre-merge queue is reorderable, so you set the sequence before anything is combined. Individual pages can still be moved afterwards in the page rail.

Do bookmarks and form fields survive a merge?

Page content, annotations and interactive fields are carried across with their pages. Existing outlines from the source documents are preserved in the combined file, and you can add new bookmarks to the result.

Can I add more pages after merging?

Yes. Insert one or more additional PDFs before or after the current page, or at the end, from the editor toolbar. Pending changes have to be exported or reverted first, so no work is discarded silently.
