What this tool does, and what it does not.

This is an electronic signature in the everyday sense: your handwritten mark, drawn or uploaded, placed on the page and written into the exported PDF. It is what most signing situations actually call for, an invoice approval, a school form, a rental agreement, a returns slip, and it takes about thirty seconds.

It is not a certificate-based digital signature. Those embed a cryptographic identity that a reader can verify against a certificate authority, which is a different mechanism with a different purpose. If someone has specifically asked for a digitally certified or qualified electronic signature, a dedicated e-signature service is the right answer, and it is worth knowing the difference before you send the file.

A signature placed here can still be positioned exactly: drag it, snap it to the page centre or to another object’s edge, rotate it in ninety-degree steps, and nudge it with the arrow keys until it sits on the line rather than near it. When you are done, flattening the export prevents the signature from being dragged off the page by anyone else.
